Anafranil is an antidepressant of tricyclic acting, which is capable to inhibit the reuptake of norepinephrine and serotonin. It is prescribed for the treatment of depressive syndrome, nocturnal enuresis, and also it has beneficial effects on psychomotor retardation, depression and anxiety. The clinical effect is observed after two to three weeks after the start of treatment with Anafranil.
The drug Anafranil is effective in treating depression, which arose because of chronic pain syndrome at somatic diseases, obsessive – compulsive disorders, phobias and panic attacks, catalepsy in narcolepsy. It is not used for treatment of patients younger than 18 years.
The active substance is chloropyramine hydrochloride. Anafranil is available as tablets, coated pink shell, of 25 mg, or sustained-release capsules. The drug is taken without chewing. The daily dose is selected only by the attending physician and is adjusted when achieving desired effect.
In case of overdose, the violations of the heart and neurological disorders are observed. For children the incidental use of the drug can turn out in death. Therefore in cases of suspected overdose, the patient should be hospitalized and observed during at least 72 hours.
